Position and Orientation

RED OCTOBER

Today you are going to draw a map of the Norwegian Ravine in the Atlantic Ocean from
the instructions that I am about to give you (Copymaster 1). The important thing here is
that you should end up at the right place and not hit the sides of the Ravine.
So I will give you co-ordinates and bearings so that you can construct a map of the Ravine.

ACTIVITY 1

ACTIVITY 2

ACTIVITY 3
Create your own pathway for someone to draw.

Success criteria:

  • You must use at least 5 different angles
  • You must use compass directions only e.g north east
  • You must use labelled axis

  1. Facing north turn 83° east from 0,0 and move 6.3Km
  2. Turn 75° west and move 5Km
  3. Turn 264° east and move 9.4 Km
  4. Turn 221° east and move 9.3Km
  5. Turn 270° east and move 0.3Km
  6. Turn 36° west and move 7.2Km
  7. Turn 345° east and move 7Km
  8. Turn 50° east and move 3.6Km
  9. Turn 160° west and move 5.1Km
  10. Turn 61° east and move 7.3Km
  11. Turn 142° east and move 6.8Km
  12. Turn 227° west and move 9.5 Km
  13. Turn 13° west and move 0.5Km

Self Reflection:
What did you do well, what are your next steps (related to position and orientation)?
I think I did my co-ordinates and directions correctly, by making them clear and showing what to
do easily.
My next steps will probably be to learn more about how to use a protractor, because in my
instructions I didn't realise that you had to hold the protractor vertically the whole time.
